U L T M I N I S T R I E S ¨ J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) ¨ J.O.Y. is a fellowship group of Sr. Adults who meet on the fourth Thursday of each month from 10:00 AM. To just past noon. The meeting includes singing, devotions, a brief business session, games and skits, and a program presented by an invited guest, sometimes one of our own. The program is followed by a meal, which is sometimes catered, and sometimes pot-luck. Many of these meetings follow a certain theme for which members may come in costume to emphasize the theme. Sometimes the costumes are adjudicated and prizes given. ¨ JOY Choir ¨ Joy Choir is a part of both the Music and the Sr. Adult ministries. This choir rehearses every Thursday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. They usually are in preparation for a special service of music with readings and/or drama sketches to be presented at a later date. Our current project is a musical entitled, “And Now a Few Words from Our Sponsor,” (or, “Wonderful Words of Life”). This musical features our own arrangements of some old songs such as, “Whispering Hope,” “Sweet Peace, the Gift of God’s Love,” “The Love of God,” “We’ve Come This Far by Faith,” and “Until Then.” Also in the musical are two original songs, “Here We Are,” and “God’s Grace Will Carry You Through.” If you are a Sr. Adult, and you enjoy singing with others in a choir, this is the one for you. ¨ Sr. Adult Retreats ¨ Twice each year, once in the fall, and again in the spring, a number of our J.O.Y. group travel to our Baptist State Assembly, Shocco Springs, for Sr. Adult Retreats. These retreats are planned and lead by program personnel from the Baptist State Board of Missions, and features well known clinicians from all over the Southern Baptist Convention. ¨ Other Trips ¨ Day Trips are planned on a monthly basis for our Sr.
Adults, and may include tours of interesting facilities, and usually includes
lunch at some new eating facility we haven’t tried before. Occasionally a few
members of our group take extended trips, usually with a tour company.
Earlier this year we took a trip to Niagara Falls, and most recently, a trip
was made to Branson, Missouri. In December, a group of us will be going to
Calloway Gardens on an overnight trip to take in the “Fantasy of Lights.”
